PUNK AND REVOLUTION

On June 20, 2016 my band El Cuervo Sucio released a music video based on our version of Voz Propia’s “Hacia las cárceles.” The video commemorates the 30 year anniversary of the prison massacres (June 19, 1986) and celebrates the 30 year history of the band Voz Propia (they debuted on June 20, 1986) along with Lima’s underground rock movement. The prison massacres represent a crucial milestone in the war. President Alan García ordered the military to retake control of three Lima prison facilities in which Shining Path prisoners had coordinated simultaneous uprisings. Jennifer Boles, a historian and documentary filmmaker, filmed and edited the video.
